I recently completed my wife’s kayak. I began this one in January 2011 and finished in late April. Most of the wood strips are western red cedar, 3/16″ thick with some redwood and walnut accent pieces. All strips were hand beveled for fit. Diamond and heart inlays are basswood; tree pattern is walnut; Zia sun and Kokopeli is mahogany. Knee braces are wavy maple. Cockpit is walnut with two basswood accents in coaming rim. 6oz fiberglass cloth, MAS epoxy, Captain’s Ultra Clear Varnish (a bad choice for finish IMO – live and learn).
